PROMIS - PROMIS was created by Inslaw in the 70s as a legal case-tracking software for public prosecutors' offices.
In 1982, the DoJ intentionally bankrupted Inslaw by withholding contract payments, then had contractor, Michael Riconosciuto modify PROMIS so the US government could use it as spyware.
In 1982, Riconosciuto's best friend, and money launderer for his off-the-books dealings with the government, Paul Morasca, was found tortured in his apartment, hog-tied such that his movements would suffocate him. Morasca's girlfriend told police that he spent the final days of his life terrified that he was being pursued by a CIA hitman named Jason Smith, later discovered by investigators to be an alias for FBI informant, Phillip Arthur Thompson.
During the ongoing Inslaw-DoJ suit, Riconosciuto fed information to journalist Danny Casolaro, then in 1991, provided an affidavit stating that, with his help, the US government had illegally modified PROMIS, and that a DoJ official threatened him with prosecution if he ever went public with this information.
That same year, Riconosciuto received a 20 year prison prison sentence on a drug charge, later extended to 30 years.
Danny Casolaro submitted a book proposal to New York publisher Little, Brown and Company about findings related to the PROMIS scandal, among other things. Weeks later, he would tell his brother: "I'm getting these strange phone calls saying, 'You're gonna die...' If anything happens to me, it won't be an accident." The next day he was found in a bathtub with his wrists slashed to a point that his hands were falling off, in a manor the coroner said was impossible.
The US handed PROMIS over to the Israelis who used Israeli spy and media mogul, Robert Maxwell (father of chief Epstein recruiter, Ghislaine Maxwell) to sell a bugged version of it to other countries so they could spy on them. Israel's NSO Group likely used PROMIS as the basis for their Pegasus spyware, used by the Israeli government, among others, to spy on your phone.
AMDOCS and Verint - In 1994, the US Congress passed legislation called the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, AKA CALEA, which mandated that all telecom traffic in the US passed through computerized central hubs to enable remote digital wiretapping. Before CALEA, wiretaps required on-site manipulation of physical phone lines, literally tapping a wire. CALEA digitized the process, allowing new NSA type mass surveillance of telecommunications in the US.
This new digital infrastructure required new hardware and software for implementing wiretaps, both of which were provided by a firm called Verint Incorporated. Verint was owned by Israeli citizens, with research and development costs massively subsidized by Israel's Ministry of Industry and Trade. By the mid-90s, the majority of wiretaps ordered by American law enforcement agencies were handled by Verint, giving them direct access to the privatized backbone of American telecommunications. In Dec. 2001, shortly after 9/11, Fox News published a four-part investigative series by Carl Cameron, focusing on Israeli infiltration of American communication systems. Cameron discovered that while various FBI inquiries into Verint's products have been conducted over the years, the inquiries had been halted before the actual equipment was ever thoroughly tested for leaks. An FCC document cited in Cameron's report indicated that several government agencies had expressed deep concern that too many unauthorized non-law enforcement personnel could access the wiretap system through remote maintenance. Although the American investigations were seemingly sabotaged, the Dutch counter intelligence service, which used the same variant products, performed their own investigation, determining that all tapping equipment of the Dutch Intelligence Services and half the tapping equipment of the Dutch National Police Force was insecure and was leaking information to Israel.
Another telecom company, called AMDOCS, which provided billing services for all of America's largest phone service providers, was similarly found to be acting as an arm of Israel's spy agency. AMDOCS was subcontracted by firms like Verizon and AT&T to create digital records of the source and destination of every phone call in the US and how long they lasted.
In 1997, the FBI began an investigation into an AMDOCS employee, who worked on a billing program purchased by the CIA, who'd apparently been spying on behalf of the Israelis. It was allegedly this employee who had facilitated the wiretapping of President Clinton's phone. More than two dozen intelligence, counter intelligence, law enforcement and other officials told journalists working for Insight magazine that a daring operation run by Israel's intelligence service had intercepted telephone and modem communications on some of the most sensitive lines of the US government on an ongoing basis. FBI investigators were particularly unnerved over discovering the targeted subcontractor had somehow gotten his hands on the FBI's most sensitive phone numbers, including the bureau's black lines used for wiretapping. During this same period, emails from President Clinton had been intercepted by Israeli intelligence services after they'd hacked into the White House's computer systems. The company that had developed the White House's communication systems was also infiltrated, and Israeli spies had installed a backdoor that allowed them to tap into the flow of data coming from the White House.
The criminal investigation was inexplicably thwarted from above. When FBI counter intelligence agents sought a warrant for the subcontractor responsible, the DOJ strangely refused to cooperate, and no warrant was issued.
The NSA then launched its PRISM program, forcing nine internet service providers to hand over billions of emails to government data farms; their Upstream collection came from the NSA cutting into undersea internet cables; XKeyscore is an NSA system which captures everything a user does on the internet. This goes beyond the US: The Five Eyes (FVEY) is an alliance between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US, which shares intelligence through global surveillance and interception system, ECHELON.
The NSA built a data center in Bluffdale Utah, costing $1.6B; there are plenty of others across the country, consuming millions of gallons of drinking water daily for evaporative cooling, depleting local municipal supplies while discharging chemical-laden wastewater runoff, some of which goes into local water-ways, destroying aquatic habitats, in-turn poisoning the food chain, altering bird migration patterns.
In 2013, Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, committed perjury by lying under oath in Congress, denying that the NSA doesn't collect data on millions of Americans.
Edward Snowden - After the Snowden leaks in 2013, the NSA's surveillance was later ruled unlawful in 2020 by the US Federal Appeals Court (Ninth Circuit). Edward Snowden worked as a systems analyst and infrastructure specialist defense contractor for Dell and Booz Allen Hamilton, assigned to the NSA. He started transferring classified documents onto encrypted drives, then fled to Hong Kong, where he disseminated the information on what the NSA was doing to Guardian journalist, Glenn Greenwald and documentary film-maker, Laura Poitras. Snowden now lives as a fugitive in Russia.
