US Aid to Israel

Despite the fact that Israel is a wealthy country with high living standards, the United States still dos out exorbitant sums in foreign aid to them every year. We're told that this actually benefits the United States because the Israelis spend much of this money on products developed by the American military-industrial complex as if the US is somehow made richer by shipping our technology to a foreign country just because they go through the motions of handing us our own money back first. Israel is also the only recipient of American foreign aid that gets special legal carveouts allowing them to receive their annual payments in a lump sum. This has created a farcical system where the Israelis sometimes decide to lend us our own money back at interest. So the United States is literally paying a premium for the privilege of giving Israel free money. At the same time, Israel has a generous welfare state with government-funed health care and education despite the fact that sizable segments of its population belong to sex that refuse to work and instead collect welfare and devote all their time to studying the Torah and raising children. We're often told that these benefits to America come from Israel's incredible technology sector and high-tech espionage skills. But what our media and politicians never mention is that these Israeli companies like Black Cube and NSO Group have been caught selling the same spy technology to America's enemies and other third parties for use against the American government.

''Israel is a strategic asset'' - the Cold War era argument goes that Israel was an asset to check Soviet power in the Middle East that's not what former National Security adviser and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger believed our impression is that Israel must be strong but Israeli strength does not prevent the spread of Communism in the Arab world Israeli strength provides for Israeli security the best defense against the spread of Communism in the Arab world is to strengthen the moderate Arab governments so it is difficult to claim that a strong Israel serves American interests because it prevents the spread of Communism in the Arab world it does not it provides for the survival of Israel. in 1982 still well before the Soviet Union's demise Israel's invasion of Lebanon created Hezbollah who killed hundreds of US Marines in a suicide bombing at the barracks of the first Battalion 8 Marines. another bombing of the US Embassy there was the single deadliest day in the cia's history. the occupation of the Palestinian territories has further resulted in two uprisings that have killed thousands of people. the occupation itself is especially troubling considering the territories were first acquired through a preemptive attack by Israel against Egypt which brought Jordan and Syria to war leading to another War over the captured territories which almost led to nuclear war. hardly a stabilizing force in the region. as mitscheimer walt put it even if Israel was a valuable Ally during the Cold War that justification ended when the Soviet Union collapsed

''we need Israel to fight terrorism'' - it shouldn't come as a big surprise that groups like Al-Qaeda attacked the United States largely because of their support for Israel years before 9/11 when a bomb Laden van exploded under the North Tower of the World Trade Center in 1993 a young Ramsey USF sent letters to New York newspapers claiming responsibility as told by Steven Cole author of the p are winning ghost Wars The Secret history of the CIA Yousef issued three political demands an end to all us Aid to Israel an end to diplomatic relations with Israel and a pledge to end interference with any of the Middle East countries interior Affairs the terrorism that Israel practices which is supported by America must be faced with a similar one the author notes that it made no references to Islam at all indeed Yousef to Define America as an enemy solely because of its support for Israel. or take Abdul Rahman Yasin one of usf's co-conspirators who said in an interview with Leslie stall: ''we have to send a message that this is not right this is to revenge for my Palestinian brothers and my brothers in Saudi Arabia.'' the architect of the later 9/11 attacks themselves none other than College shik Muhammad was also motivated by us support for Israel according to the official 911 Commission report by his own account ksm's animous toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences there as a student but rather from his violent disagreement with US foreign policy favoring Israel. there's also the man himself Osama Bin Laden in Lawrence writes pets are winning the looming Tower the author describes a 14-year-old Osama: ''sometimes he would sit in front of the television and weep over the news from Palestine in his teenage years he was the same nice kid his mother later related but he was more concerned sad and frustrated about the situation in Palestine in particular and the Arab and Muslim World in general.'' he was vocal about it in the Years prior to 911 declaring in his 1996 fatwa: ''it is no secret to you my brothers that the people of Islam have been Afflicted with oppression hostility and Injustice by the judeo-christian alliance your blood has been spilt in Palestine and Iraq.''

Mr Bin Laden you have declared a Jihad against the United states can you tell us why the US government has committed acts that are extremely unjust hideous and criminal through its support of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and we believe the US is directly responsible for those killed in Palestine Lebanon and Iraq

''Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East'' - Israel Israel is neither a democracy nor is it especially moral compared to other states that's putting it lately but bear with me first of all in February of 2023 the civilian Authority or the body that governs the West Bank was transferred to Israeli Finance Minister bezel smotrich in other words the West Bank was effectively annexed in 2023 what has been ruled by a military commander for more than half a century was transferred over to civilian control being administered by the federal government of Israel smotrich was given expansive Powers over land surveying registration settlement construction Outpost demolition infrastructure projects including water electricity transportation and other matters despite this extraordinary power over the lives of some 3 million Palestinians not a single one of them are able to vote in Israeli elections despite being at the mercy of its whims this is not a democracy simply put. the perilous situation in Gaza is anything but the manifestation of a morally righteous Democrat country either. I've also covered the topic of Israeli apartheid in the occupied territories and Israel proper as well in this video here.

besides Sam mimer and Walt whether a country is democratic is not a reliable indicator of how Washington will relate to it the United States has overthrown a few democratic governments in the past and has supported numerous dictators when doing so was thought to Advan us interests the Eisenhower Administration overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran in 1953 while the Reagan Administration supported Saddam Hussein in the 1980s. the fact that bills and political parties in Israel are disqualified if they negate the existence of the state of Israel as the state of the Jewish people or the Democratic character of the state is also caused for some alarm and contrary to basic Democratic principles in October of 2000

Sea of Arabs FalacyJohnson additionally sent a telegram to prime minister Levi eshkol the Soviets tell me that they have information that you are preparing to take military action against your Arab neighbors and provoke a conflict which would be fraught with great consequences they tell us that they know the Arabs do not wish a military conflict Israel just must not take any preemptive military action and thereby make itself responsible for the init iation of hostilities unilateral action on the part of Israel would be irresponsible and catastrophic Israeli ambassador to the US Abraham Harmon told Dean Rusk in a conversation just days before the War Began that Israel is threatened not with aggression but with genocide Dean Rusk responded just days after Harmon's boss was told the Same by President Johnson that we have been told categorically that Egypt will not attack they had good reason to believe this since to read from a state department telegram from May 27th on behalf of all Arab ambassadors Lebanese Kuwaiti and Libyan ambassadors called on the secretary May 27th on instructions that their governments Express concern of Arab countries about present Arab Israeli crisis ambassadors emphasized that no Arab State wanted to start war and no one wanted unfriendly relations with the US I've covered the the Israeli admissions that Nasser did not want a war prior to June 5th 1967 but just to review no less an Israeli figure than Yak Rabin then Chief of Staff of the IDF said in 1968 that the two divisions that Nasser sent to siai on May 14th would not have been enough to unleash an offensive against Israel he knew it and we knew it his Deputy Ezra whitesman further said there was never a danger of extermination years later in 198 2 Israeli Prime Minister mahim beIN declared we must be honest with ourselves we decided to attack him aware of the unfortunate position and Israeli attack on Egypt would put the United States the Israelis decided to lie about it Harry mcferson then White House councel provides an amusing account of Israeli lying following their preemptive attack on Egypt the first day of the war June 5th mcferson made his way over to the Israeli defense min history and met with ABA Aben something quickly struck him as odd they were saying that they were hit by the Egyptians were attacked by the Egyptians and they had counterattacked it didn't seem right to me and I kept asking about this I kept saying well where did they hit you and he said oh there were big movements down in the sin in the ngev I said into Israel and he said it was imminent it was coming. I said, but did but did they cross over it's vital for the president to know is he going to be talking on behalf of a country that was literally attacked or a country that launched a preventive attack and he said they were right there at that time the air rate siren went off again and he kept talking and he didn't make a move nobody made a move to go underground finally one of them said shouldn't we go underground and general yariv looked at his watch and thought for a minute and said no that won't be necessary and suddenly the whole thing just broke open of course it wasn't necessary AR there weren't any damned Arab airplanes left. it was easy enough to tell by the first day as was noted by the CIA an analysis of presently available information suggests that Israel fired the first shots today Walt rosow remembering a cabinet meeting from that day with Dean Rusk Robert mcnamer McGeorge Bundy Clark Clifford and Dean Atcheson the former Secretary of State under Harry Truman wrote, ''there was an interesting moment as I remember. it Mr aeson looked back on the whole history of Israeli Independence and in effect said that it was a mistake to ever create the state of Israel.''

if I may a caveat in a 2004 interview with haratz Israeli historian Benny Morris was asked if he identified with David benan after having researched him for several years up to that point I do not identify with Ben gurian I think he made a serious historical mistake in 1948 even though he understood the demographic issue and the need to establish a Jewish State without a large Arab minority he got cold feet during the war in the end he faltered the interviewer responds I'm not sure I understand are you saying that Ben gurian aired in expelling too few Arabs Benny Morris if he was already engaged in expulsion maybe he should have done a complete job I know that this stuns the Arabs and the Liberals and the politically correct types but my feeling is that this place would be quieter and no less suffering if the matter had been resolved once and for all if beneran had carried out a large expulsion and cleansed the whole country the whole land of Israel as far as the Jordan River it may yet turn out that this was his fatal mistake if he had carried out a full expulsion rather than a partial one he would have stabilized the state of Israel for Generations the interviewer the term to cleanse is terrible Benny Morris I know it doesn't sound nice but that's the term that they used at the time I adopted it from all the 1948 documents in which I am immersed on the Palestinians moris opined it is a very sick Society it should be treated the way we treat individuals who are serial killers there is a wild animal there that has to be locked up in one way or another

Morris one of the Israeli new historians and author of the birth of the Palestinian refugee problem is well known for debunking the conventional myths of Zionist history one of the most tenacious myths relating to 1948 is that of David and Goliath that the Arabs were overwhelmingly stronger militarily than the yeshu the simple truth is at the stronger side one rashed khi has gone into detail on this himself Israel in fact outnumbered and outgunned its opponents there were only five regular Arab military forces in the field in 1948 as Saudi Arabia and Yemen did not have modern armies to speak of just four of these armies entered the territory of mandatory Palestine the minuscule Lebanese AR never crossed the frontier and two of these Jordan's Arab Legion and Iraq's forces were forbidden by their British allies from breaching the borders of the areas allocated to the Jewish state by partition and thus carried out no invasion of Israel so much of the Arab Coalition wouldn't even invade Israel proper much less seek its destruction indeed as Benny Morris wrote in his 1948 and after none of the Arab states save trans Jordan committed the full weight of their military power to the Enterprise indicating either inefficiency or perhaps a less than wholehearted seriousness about the declared aim of driving the Jews into the sea but even trans Jordan Morris writes neither expected nor planned for Israel's demise nor were the Arab Legion operations from May onwards designed to bring this about as previously noted the 1967 war was sparked not by Arab states seeking to destroy Israel but by an Israeli attack on Egypt in the later 1973 War says Morris presidents anir Sadat of Egypt and haes Assad of Syria sought to regain the territories lost in 1967 neither aimed to destroy Israel despite a still widely held belief apparently since Helen Miran starred in a movie which declares the opposite ''if the Arabs reach Tel Aviv Israel will be wiped off the map'' of course today Israel is one of the most powerful militaries anywhere in the entire world the fourth most powerful military after the US Russia and China according to US News and World Report it is also the only country in the Middle East and in fact one of the very few anywhere with nuclear weapons military prowess aided by the extraordinary Aid received by the United States every year though the US and Israel didn't always have this special relationship Harry Truman supported the US partition plan and recognized Israel but American policy makers didn't want to put their full weight behind the N Jewish state for fear of alienating Arab states it wasn't until John F Kennedy's presidency when he authorized the first major arm shipment to Israel in 1963 that the floodgates opened anti-aircraft missiles and tanks were among the first Arms

Tech falacy - We're often told that these benefits to America come from Israel's incredible technology sector and high-tech espionage skills. But what our media and politicians never mention is that these Israeli companies like Black Cube and NSO Group have been caught selling the same spy technology to America's enemies and other third parties for use against the American government.

black arrow/cold war falacy - beneran returned to government in February of 1955 initially as Minister of Defense just days later or one week to be exact the Israeli Army launched operation Black Arrow a deadly crossborder raid into Egyptian held Gaza killing some 40 of their soldiers. It was this raid into Gaza that Nasser cited specific Al as the driving force behind his signing an arms deal with Soviet Alli Czechoslovakia in September of 1955.

cold war falacy - in oral history interview with Robert comr from the JFK Presidential Library Begins by describing him as a senior staff member of the National Security Council from 1961 through 1965 in this interview com discusses working with MC George Bundy and the inner circle of the Bundy State Department you'll doubtless find his Frank discussion of the Israel Lobby to be enlightening it's certainly something to be studied closely and pondered the interviewer asks one hears the charge that the state department that near Eastern Affairs is pro-arab is there justification for that comr responds yes state is naturally cast in the role as a deliberate understandable counter to the great domestic pressures from the Israeli constituency on the White House the secretary of state is by definition it's in his tacet job description the spokesman for the even-handed policy against all that political advice that is going to the White House on how to be pro-israeli second American Business in so far as it has any influence the oil companies Etc tends to be pro-arab third in terms of strategic geography Israel is a millstone around our and known as such to all and sunry if it weren't that Israel were inhabited by Israelis our policy would be totally different. you can make a very good case that it has been our commitments to Israel that has given the Russians great opportunities in the Middle East naturally the state and defense departments at the professional level were arabist our strategic and economic interests were emphatically with the Arabs. only our political interest was with the Israelis and our political interest was being argued by somebody else so I regarded it as 1,000% legitimate that state and defense the professionals tend to be pro-arab.

cold war falacy - this Aid can hardly be justified on the grounds that Israel was a key strategic Ally during the Cold War as Henry Kissinger admitted flatly to a room full of lobbyists in 1975 Israeli strength does not prevent the spread of Communism in the Arab world Israeli strength provides for Israeli security the best defense against the spread of Communism in the Arab world is to strengthen the moderate Arab governments so it is difficult to claim that a strong Israel serves American interests because it prevents the spread of Communism in the Arab world it does not it provides for the survival of Israel

ally falacy - What is the situation today? Now, it is very easy for a group like this to try to say that American and Israeli interests are identical. But this is not exactly so. And I think it is wrong for the Jewish community in the United States to get fixed on that concept. The United States has an interest in the survival of Israel, but we of course have an interest in the 130 million Arabs that sit awart the world's oil supplies. Kissinger also dispensed with a popular notion. Israeli strength does not prevent the spread of communism in the Arab world. Israeli strength provides for Israeli security. The best defense against the spread of communism in the Arab world is to strengthen the moderate Arab governments. So it is difficult to claim that a strong Israel serves American interests because it prevents the spread of communism in the Arab world. It does not. It provides for the survival of Israel. He also warned his audience that any attempt by Israel to organize the American Jewish community against their government will lead to a disaster.

US aid - As mentioned before, while the 1967 war marked the beginning of the so-called special relationship in earnest, the 1973 war saw the debuting of the absurd level of US military aid that we've become familiar with. After the October 1973 war, Kissinger conferred more regularly with the prime movers within the pro-Israel lobby in America, Apac and the Conference of Presidents.

Military proxy falacy - One of the other most common arguments from Israel defenders is that Israel is our single most important military ally because it provides vital assistance and tactical advantages for America's imperial wars in the region. But how many Israeli soldiers do you think fought in America's war in Afghanistan? The answer is zero. You want to guess how many Israeli soldiers fought in the Iraq war? Same answer. England sent troops. So did Australia. But somehow our greatest ally avoided committing a single soldier to fight the war they were so instrumental in foisting on the American people. The favored rhetorical form of the military proxy argument is that Israel is America's quote unsinkable aircraft carrier in the Middle East. But during the global war on terror, when the American military wanted to conduct drone strikes against countries right next to Israel, like Iraq and Syria, they were forced to launch the drones from bases much further away in Qatar and Bahrain because the Israelis weren't willing to assume even that marginal risk on behalf of the US. In reality, the only American military bases located within Israel's borders are radar and missile defense bases. But none of the countries in that region have missiles capable of hitting the United States. And if the goal was to protect America's bases or commercial interests in the wider region, then the US would have constructed these radar and missile defense installations in those vital areas, not in Israel. In other words, the only American military assets located on that unsinkable aircraft carrier are dedicated exclusively to defending Israel itself from missile attacks. Defending Americans has literally nothing to do with it. So rather than providing a tactical advantage to the US, America's military presence in Israel is in reality just another handout to the Israelis, providing them free missile defense staffed and paid for by Americans. And these bases aren't even counted in the already exorbitant foreign aid totals.

Muhammad Ata, one of the 19 hijackers on 9/11, was doing post-graduate studies in urban planning in Germany when Israel attacked Lebanon in Operation Grapes of Wrath in 1996. The civilian casualties Israel inflicted so enraged ATA that he drew up his last will and testament that very day and resolved to attack America for enabling yet another Israeli war. In Osama bin Laden's 1998 declaration of jihad against the US, he listed American support for Israel among his top three motives for attacking Americans.

Why JJ Goldberg editor of the Jewish forward newspaper explained in his work Jewish power Zionist influence increased exponentially during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations because the affluence and influence of Jews in American society had increased Jews had become vital donors to the Democratic party they were key figures in the organized labor movement which was essential to the Democratic party they were major figures in Liberal intellectual cultural and academic circles more than any of their predecessors in the Oval Office John Kennedy and lendon Johnson counted numerous Jews among their close advisers donors and personal friends the Israeli Victory from the 6-day war saw shipments of military aid soar to new heights in the early days of the state of Israel us officials believed it too weak to act as a counterweight to Soviet influence simply put Israel's military victories proved otherwise from 1949 to 1965 us Aid averaged $63 million a year by 1970 it was 102 million and in 1971 us Aid reached a staggering 634 million 85% of that pure military aid this amount qued after the Yum kapor war in 1973 by 1976 Israel was the largest recipient of US foreign aid a status it has held ever since  over the years Congress has granted Israel Myriad special privileges in order to receive more Aid and quicker mimer and Walt explained most recipients of American foreign aid get their money in quarterly installments but since 1982 the annual foreign aid bill has included a special Clause specifying that Israel is to receive its entire annual appropriation in the first 30 days of the fiscal year. the foreign military financing program normally requires recipients of US military assistance to spend all of the money here in the United States to help keep American defense workers employed. Congress grants Israel a special exemption in the annual Appropriations Bill however authorizing it to use about one out of every four US military aid dollars to subsidize its own defense industry. Jeremy M sharp noted in a 2006 report for the Congressional research service that no other recipient of US military assistance has been granted this benefit. another CRS report from 2005 reveals amazingly that because US economic aid is given to Israel as direct government-to-government budgetary support without any specific project accounting and money is fungible there is no way to tell how Israel uses us Aid. again a privilege not granted to any other recipient of us Aid anywhere in the world.

Monetary aid

Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid

As of 2023, the United States has provided Israel $158 billion (current, or non-inflation-adjusted, dollars) in bilateral assistance and missile defense funding. From 1971 to 2007, Israel also received significant economic

assistance.

Since October 7th - The House passed a bill to provide $14.3 billion in aid to Israel as it fights a war against Hamas

10million dollars a day are sent to israel

Israel special privileges with the US

Israel is the only recipient of American foreign aid that gets special legal carveouts allowing them to receive their annual payments in a lump sum. This has created a farcical system where the Israelis sometimes decide to lend us our own money back at interest. So the United States is literally paying a premium for the privilege of giving Israel free money. At the same time, Israel has a generous welfare state with government-f funed health care and education despite the fact that sizable segments of its population belong to sex that refuse to work and instead collect welfare and devote all their time to studying the Torah and raising children.

US-Israel tax treaty - Private donations to most foreign countries are not usually tax deductible, but American Jews have sent an additional $2 billion tax deductible dollars per year to Israel because of our US-Israel tax treaty with Israel.

Privileges in the FMF program - Under the FMF program it is required for countries receiving US military aid to spend all of the money here in the US, but Israel is the only country that gets a special rate demotion clause that allows Israel to send just $1 of every $4 in the US. Israel is also able to draw down the grants then in order to reduce the amount of interest it owes the US.

Unaccountability with US aid - Israel is the only country that receives economic aid that does not have to report how its spent.

Loan guarantees for US banks - They also get loan guarantees which allow them to borrow money from commercial banks at lower rates.

Receiving aid upfront - Israel gets their money usually upfront, whereas other countries receive it in quarterly installments. Israel is able to make interest off the unspent money until it’s used up. Since the US runs budget deficits, giving all that money upfront requires the US to borrow the money which costs US taxpayers an additional $70 million per year. Then, American taxpayers end up paying Israel more interest when Israel reinvests the unspent portion in US treasury bills. Israel earns about $300 million per year in interest off loans we give them.

Sharing of US weapons technology

Israel doesn't need to pay for advanced military warfare systems from the US and they are exempt from paying the license to reproduce some of these systems within their own military industry.

Israel is the first international operator of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Department of Defense’s fifth-
generation stealth aircraft, considered to be the most technologically advanced fighter jet ever made.

Aid to Israel's allies

Annual Billions to Egypt - In 1978 Omar Sadat the president of Egypt and the prime minister of Israel begins to sign the camp David accords. In February 1979 the shah is forced to take a vacation to Egypt and never return to Iran. A month after the revolution in Iran, where upon Iran nationalized their oil, Israel, with the U.S. signs a peace treaty with. The U.S. will pay Egypt Billions annually and modernize their military. Egypt will close the Suez Canal to Iran and leave it open to the Israelis. Israel receives twice as much aid, meanwhile Palestine is colonized and ruled under Israel's racial apartheid.

The money we send to Egypt and Jordan, which are number 2 and 3 in recipients of US foreign aid, is to protect Israel and is mainly an incentive for a peace agreement and good behavior between the countries.

Resolution 46/86: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_General_Assembly_Resolution_3379 was raised under pressure from the United States, and American president George H. W. Bush personally introduced the motion to revoke Resolution 3379 with the following statement:

UNGA Resolution 3379, the so-called "Zionism is racism" resolution, mocks this pledge and the principles upon which the United Nations was founded. And I call now for its repeal. Zionism is not a policy; it is the idea that led to the creation of a home for the Jewish people, to the State of Israel. And to equate Zionism with the intolerable sin of racism is to twist history and forget the terrible plight of Jews in World War II and, indeed, throughout history. To equate Zionism with racism is to reject Israel itself, a member of good standing of the United Nations. This body cannot claim to seek peace and at the same time challenge Israel's right to exist. By repealing this resolution unconditionally, the United Nations will enhance its credibility and serve the cause of peace.

The question of whether Zionism is Racism answered by Bushie with "they suffered in WW2!"

Non proliferation - Literally 100% of our foreign aid to Israel for at least the last 50 years has been objectively illegal under American and international law because of Israel's secret undeclared nuclear weapons program. Forget the stolen uranium. Under any rational reading of the law, the US should be sanctioning Israel as a rogue state and arresting its leaders just for their repeated violations of nuclear proliferation bans. But instead, when international law experts or human rights activists have tried to enforce international law against Israel, the US sanctions them, freezes their assets, and makes it so they can't travel internationally or even get a credit card.

Egypt Proxy - The second biggest recipient of American foreign aid after Israel is Egypt, but they only started receiving these huge payouts from the US in the mid70s after they'd established diplomatic relations with Israel. The Egyptian populace is still overwhelmingly hostile to Israel, having fought multiple wars against them within living memory. So this US aid is widely seen as essentially a bribe paid to the Egyptian political class to prevent tensions with Israel from boiling over into open conflict. So while American foreign aid payments to Israel are obviously wildly excessive, that number doesn't even capture the true cost we pay to prop up our greatest ally.

tractor attack/ally falacy - a telegram from US Embassy Tel Aviv back to US state expresses strong disapproval over the Israeli attack on Syrian tractors on May 13th if such actions lead to Security Council considerations the US will not be able to support Israel years later in 1976 mosha Dian would tell reporter Ramy tall how at least 80% of the clashes there started while he was defense minister speaking of the Syrian front in my opinion more than 80% we would send a tractor to plow someplace in the demilitarized area and knew in advance that the syrians would start to shoot if they didn't shoot we would tell the tractor to advance farther until in the end the syrians would get annoyed and shoot and then we would use artillery and later the Air Force. the Americans were perplexed with why if the Israelis were militarily Superior to all the Arab states did they bother attacking them this way. in a July 1965 telegram from the Department of State to the Embassy in Israel we would have expected during recent months as high tide of Arab Summit solidarity receded and as Arab realists recognized once again Israel's basic military preeminence the government of Israel's actions would be characterized more consistently by calm confidence and restraint expected of a nation whose security is essentially if not absolutely assured the government of Israel's actions pointed to above also have disadvantages in our view of detracting from Israel's image as a country sincerely devoted to peace with its neighbors and of making US Government efforts to help Israel more difficult and reducing their chances of success. their perplexity turned to outrage as news emerged of an isra Israeli raid on Samu in the West Bank on November 13th 1966. in response to the deaths of three Israeli soldiers from landmines the Israelis sent in a large Invasion Force including tanks and followed by aircraft. in an act of collective punishment the IDF forced everyone into the Town Square to watch as they demolished their houses some 125 in all the CIA offered a sobering assessment of the damage the raid caused. King Hussein had made a sustained effort to avoid provocations to Israel this has involved such steps as preventing Arab sabots from Crossing from Jordan into Israel and keeping his armored forces east of the Jordan River these measures have been politically unpopular at home and have subjected him to criticism from other Arab states. the recent raid involved an infantry Brigade supported by armor aircraft and artillery it resulted in about 50 deaths half of them Jordanian soldiers and in the destruction of about 150 buildings he is aware that retaliation carries the risk of an expanded conflict which could involve the bulk of his army a process in which the latter would almost certainly be defeated. the Israeli raid seems illogical and miscalculated to us Walt rostow National Security adviser as well opined retaliation is not the point in this case this three th000 man raid with tanks and planes was out of all proportion to the provocation and was aimed at the wrong Target. in hitting Jordan so hard the Israelis have done a great deal of damage to our interests and to their own. they've wrecked a good system of tacid cooperation between Hussein and the Israelis continuing this kind of cooperation will be all but impossible now which stung for the US even more when considering we've spent $500 million to Short him up. we might begin putting out the line with our Jewish friends here that the US can't go on supporting Israel's interests in the Middle East unless the Israelis themselves show some intent over the long run to reach an accommodation with the Arabs. Washington responded to the Samu incident by speeding up delivery of f104 aircraft to Jordan rostow acknowledged that no matter what we do the Israelis and their friends will object but we're just cleaning up the mess that Israel's rate created and we taken Israel's military concerns into account. by contrast the Joint Chiefs of Staff in a February 1967 memorandum to defense secretary Robert mcnamer made their feelings known with regard to arming Israel. The Joint Chiefs of Staff do not consider that military aid to Israel is justified by the internal or external threat Israel's present military forces are capable of Defending successfully against any individual or Collective Arab attack how however the previously bitter rostow changed his tune telling Johnson their December rate on Samu precipitated our emergency military assistance to Jordan costing us about $9 million. while we made no commitment to match exactly for Israel what their action at Samu forced us to in Jordan ambassador to the United Nations Arthur Goldberg under continuing pressure in New York feels strongly we should do nearly that. (pressure from New York a euphemism for the lobby) You may also find it interesting that the Israelis considered Goldberg an asset and even referred to him by a code name Minasha. in April of 1967 the Israelis again launched a provocative assault on Syria sending tractors as was routine and following Syrian shelling the Israelis launched an assault deep into Syrian territory shooting down six migf fighter aircraft including two in Damascus. judging from briefing notes for CIA director Richard Helms this left Nasser little Choice. the Egyptians embarrassed because they had not helped the syrians in April then made a big show of marching into siai partly to show good faith partly in hopes of deterring the Israelis. Nasser followed this with a move which would seal the fate of the Middle East forever closing the straight of Teran.

eager to avoid a repeat of Eisenhower's strong disapproval of the Suez invasion of 1956 the lobby utilized all means at their disposal the Israeli foreign Ministry orchestrated a campaign to quote create a public atmosphere that will constitute pressure on the administration in the direction of obtaining our desired goals without it being explicitly clear that we are behind this public campaign. on May 26th 1967 foreign minister ABA Aben met secretly with president Johnson to lay out a fake apocalyptic scenario in which we are sitting on a time bomb saying they faced imminent attack in January 1969 the state Department's historical studies division produced a report at the time top secret on United States policy and diplomacy in the Middle East crisis from May 15th to June 10th 1967 it contains the US government's position on the threat of an Egyptian attack on Israel since aan had wondered why the United States did not accept Israeli intelligence reports of a possible imminent United Arab Republic attack on Israel secretary mcnamer explained to aen in some detail that three separate intelligence groups had looked carefully into the matter and that it was the US conclusion that the Egyptian deployments were defensive all estimates were unanimous President Johnson added that if the United Arab Republic attacked Israel would quote whip the hell out of them.

Adherance and capacity for punishment

They say that every country which has expelled the 👃s has suffered a terrible fate. But every country which excepts, and especially those which actively help them, get fucked too.
