Crocodiles - Israeli authorities killed hundreds of crocodiles at a Jordan Valley farm, saying the culling was necessary to prevent the animals from being used in a potential terror attack in the West Bank.

Ritual sacrifice

In 2018, Palestinians across East Jerusalem protested after a court-approved Passover sacrifice ceremony held by religious Jews close to the Temple Mount, in which a lamb was slaughtered.

In 2026, Israeli settlers made seven attempts to smuggle animal sacrifices into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound during Passover, the highest number of such incidents documented since the beginning of the Israeli occupation.

Federman family - On the eve of Passover, the Federman family in Israel loaded a young male goat into their car and drove from their farm in a West Bank to Jerusalem, where they hoped to slaughter the animal in the ritual sacrifice prescribed in the Bible. Elisheva Federman: "Thank God, more people are trying to carry out this commandment... Whenever a male goat is born, she does not vaccinate or brand it, as according to the Book of Leviticus, an offering must be a male without blemish."

Kapparot - Kapparot is a symbolic atonement chicken swinging ritual practiced by Orthodox Jews on the eve of Yom Kippur, in which sin is supposedly transmitted into the abused bird.
